A four-step small business social media strategy

Yeah, social media is “free,” so we tend to treat it as an afterthought or something that we don’t need to take as seriously. However, as you make plans for your business on social media, it’s important to create a defined path to your goals, because when you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

There are four elements involved in crafting the best social media strategy for your business, the first being your business goals. I know, you’re a busy business owner, you don’t have time to set goals. However, you won’t be able to determine which platforms to use or how to use them if you don’t have business goals in place to use as a benchmark. Your goals should be SMART – Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-Bound. The next step is to determine the specific social media marketing methods that will get you to each goal. If your business goal is to earn an additional $1,500 over the next 60 days, in what specific ways can Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. help you do that? Whenever I’m asked, “What’s the best social media channel to be on?” I always give the same answer: the one you’ll use consistently that puts you in front of your ideal audience.
